tonight's Show

Tonight, on Life Rattle Number 1251, we present the final two stories of our Virginia Ashberry showcase.

Niall Carson was born in Belfast, Ireland, in 1971, in the midst of civil war. At the age of three, his parents, Patrick and Deirdre, decided to move Niall and his older sister to the Toronto area in the face of rising violence in Ireland. They settled in a small town north of Toronto, and soon after they arrived, another sister and brother (twins) were born.

After attending high school in Newmarket and King City, Niall spent some time in England and Ireland working as a bartender, and travelling. Upon returning to Toronto, he worked several dead-end jobs before deciding to pursue a degree in Celtic Studies at St. Michael's College (University of Toronto). Before completing his degree, Niall exchanged his academic career for one in business and has spent the past eighteen years in marketing and sales roles.

Niall Carson recently completed his Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Celtic Studies. He holds a black belt in Taekwon-do, and he’s passionate about scuba diving and all things below the water's surface.

Niall Carson delivers character studies that offer sharp, unexpected insights, surrounded by settings so real you feel you are there.

In "The Wedding," tonight’s first story, our narrator and his father travel to Ireland to attend a family wedding. Old family skeletons and long standing tension between father and son haunt the occasion.

Throughout tonight's second story, "Jon," we get to know Jon, an acquaintance more than a friend of our narrator’s. Towards the end of the story, Carson creates an incredible landscape, haunting in itself, but even more so when juxtaposed with the characters of the story.

Please note: tonight’s stories, written for and about adults, include material that some listeners may find offensive. Parental discretion is advised.
