Hosted by virginia Ashberry featuring "Room For Rent" by Diane Donaghy |
tonight's Show Life Rattle No. 1235 features two new stories from Life Rattle writer Diane Donaghy. An only child, born in Toronto, Ontario in 1956, Diane Donaghy grew up in the area of Toronto now known as “Leslieville.” Her dad was a real estate salesman who went on to start his own business. Her mother was a stay-at-home mom, till she began working as her dad’s secretary and then as his business partner. The family lived at the same house until Donaghy was sixteen, when they moved to east Scarborough. At that point Donaghy ventured out on her own with a friend, then dropped out of school after grade eleven. Donaghy worked many different jobs and partied with friends all through the 70s and 80s. She landed a job at a major telecommunications company in 1988 and remained there for twenty years before outsourcing hit. Donaghy then went back to school and is currently in the Social Work field. Earlier this year, we were very excited to bring you stories from Diane Donaghy, written back when she was known as Diane Tiley. Those stories were first heard on Life Rattle in 1988, the year this show began. Tonight we hear two more stories of Donaghy’s early life. These stories do an amazing job of capturing the culture of the 70’s and 80’s here in North America. It was a time of freedom expressed through hedonism. Donaghy’s un-apologetic style captures that era perfectly.
Note: tonight's stories contain language and situations that some listeners may find offensive. Listener discretion is advised. |
